History in Video Games Series

Here at PixelPreserve, we love both video games and history. In fact, one of our favorite genres is historical video games! Who doesn't love exploring the Old West on horseback or climbing the buildings of Renaissance Italy? However, it's important to be sure to separate fact from fiction. That's why we've created our educational program, the History in Video Games series, where we'll cover all things history and video games and answer some of your most pressing questions. Assassin's Creed

Third Crusade, 12th Century, Middle East

When someone says historical video games, the first series that comes to mind is Assassin's Creed, and for good reason. The series has visited several eras and locations while intertwining real historical figures and events with a fictional storyline. We want to go back to where the series began, with Altaïr Ibn-LaʼAhad, an assassin taking on the Knights Templar. We'll answer all your questions, such as: Who were the Hashshashins? What were the Crusades? Is Masyaf a real place?

Samurai Warriors 2

Warring States Period, 16th Century, Japan

The Warring States Period of Japan is one of the more commonly featured eras in historic video games. That's because the Warring States Period, also referred to as the Sengoku Period, was wrought with turbulence in leadership and violent wars. While the Samurai Warriors series is certainly an over-the-top representation of the period, the games features historic figures, locations, and battles. We're here to help you separate fact from fiction. Did Oda Nobunaga drink sake out of a skull? Was the weather really that important at the Battle of Sekigahara? Who was Fūma Kotarō and did they actually look like that?

Upcoming in the History in Video Games series:

Objectivism and Ayn Rand with Bioshock

Artifacts or Artifalse with Tomb Raider

Music History with Rock Band 4

...and more!
