Our final stop for the first week of class was Westminster Abbey. This stop felt a little more like it was one of the tourist-y type of visits, but it was still one that I was happy to attend. I am not a religious person, but I absolutely love architecture! Therefore, I enjoy visiting sacred spaces because, in my experience, these spaces tend to be the ones that we most often utilize interesting or beautiful architectural styles. And the architectural styles of Westminster Abbey did not disappoint.
Westminster Abbey is filled with hundreds of memorial statues, tiles, or burials of nobles, scientists, artists, authors, soldiers, and aristocrats. I did feel that the floor memorial tiles felt a bit disrespectful, as thousands of people walk all over them every day. For the photo I want to share of Westminster Abbey, I wanted to focus on the architecture that awestruck me, and also to offer a different view of the abbey, one looking up rather than looking down.
